BELGIAN CHRISTMAS MARKETS STAYING IN BRUGES 10th - 12th December 2010 Friday 10th Depart approx. 6.00am, travel to the Channel Tunnel by coach, with refreshment stops as required. We should arrive in Bruges by late afternoon. Known as the ‘Venice of the North’, Bruges is one of the most beautiful cities if Europe. The entire historical city centre is on the World Heritage List and walking along the maze of winding cobbled alleys and romantic canals, you could imagine yourself to be in medieval times. The Park Hotel (www.parkhotel-brugge.be) is situated on t’Zand, one of the many squares with the centre of Bruges only a few minutes walk away. Bed and breakfast at the Park Hotel. Saturday 11th A day of choices :- 1. Spend the whole day and evening in Bruges exploring the Christmas Market, shops, cafes or museums. 2. Walk to the near by station and catch the train into the heart of Brussels. 3. Join the Felix coach on our day time excursion to the neighbouring town of Ghent. 4. Join our optional early evening Felix coach excursion (£5.00) to Ostend, departing from Ostend 10.00pm. The train ride to Brussels takes approx. one hour and costs approx. 11 euros. Bruges railway station is within easy walking distance of the Park Hotel and the Brussels station is also central to the city centre. There is a half hourly service between the two towns. Exact details will be available nearer the time. Ghent is only about 45 minutes from Bruges by coach. Ghent was once Europe’s largest cloth producer and its opulent past can be seen in its many magnificent buildings, 900 of which are listed ! The Christmas Market is in traditional chalets next to the splendid Saint Bavo Cathedral. Ostend has been a favourite destination for English holiday makers for many years; head to the illuminated Wapenplein square for its Christmas Market, winter cheer, music, food stalls & mulled wine before enjoying a meal at one of Ostend’s many restaurants. Sunday 12th Return home, departing Bruges approximately 1.00pm. Arriving home mid-evening.
